Yukon Quest sign ups and a new member of the team.

by Squid Acres Kennel on August 8, 2012

On August 4th, the Yukon Quest had it’s first day of signups for the 2013 Yukon Quest. Cody signed up to run this years race. It will start on February 2nd in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada and finish 1000 miles later in our hometown of Fairbanks. Paige ran this race last year and the team did awesome, so we are super thrilled to see the team back out on the Quest trail this year. Instead of writing lots about what happened at sign ups, I have included a great radio story by Emily Schwing of KUAC and a video bellow by Scott Chesney. Please check these out to get the full story and interviews from mushers that were there on the first day.

Mushers still have until December to sign up, so there will be many more mushers to sign up and possibly a few will drop out by then too.  Here at Squid Acres, we have a huge winter planned and lots to do before winter starts. It will be very exciting.

On another note, we have a new handler, David Palmer, from Oakland California. David has been touring the country on his road bike for the past couple years and ended up in Fairbanks this summer. He has decided to get off that bike saddle for awhile and try the runners of a dogsled instead.  Check out his website if interested in his travels and please join us in welcoming David to team Squid!
